From the Desk of the Commander

Spring is upon us and there’s a lot coming up at the post. Including the annual post chili cook off in March along with nominations for officers. If you or you have someone in mind to hold a position at the post such as Jr. Vice, Sr. Vice, Commander, and Quarter master get to the meeting in March to put your nominations in. I hear a lot of good suggestions and input around the post. This is your time to get down to the post and vote.  We just had TSgt Adrianne Boman’s going away party. I can voice enough how much she will be missed by everyone at the post be sure to say goodbye if you have not she has done so much as an active member of the VFW. Be sure to stay up to date with what is going on down at the post via Facebook or check out the announcement board in the main entrance. If you know of any veteran or member struggling be sure to inform them, we have the recourses they need to get where they need to be. Also, there is a weekly AA meeting in the MCL room on Fridays at noon. Be sure to stay current on your dues so you don’t lose any post and VFW wide privileges. Also, the post will be sponsoring 2 children to camp trotter this summer so if you know of any one be sure to let us know, ages 7 to 13.

From the Desk of the Auxiliary President

Hi Everyone!

I hope everyone is doing well and looking forward to Spring!

At our January and February meetings we decorated and put together 128 Valentine’s Day goody bags for all the veterans at the Grand Rapids Home for Veteran’s. A special thanks to Sr. Vice President Heather Dickey for organizing this and getting them to the Grand Rapid’s Home. The 2D Young American Creative Patriotic Art Contest and the 3D Patriotic Art Contest are open to all 9th through 12th graders. Applications are on the table at the Post. Applications are due into the post by March 31st .Camp Trotter Summer camp is open. Camp is open to all kids ages 7-12. You can find more information here. We do sponsor a kid each year so if you know someone interested in going please let us know. Camp Trotter could use our help for clean up days to get the camp ready for the kids. Currently clean up days are scheduled for March 8th -10th , March 21st -24th , and April 12th -14th .Elections for Officers will be held at our April Meeting. I have made the decision to step down as President and will not be an officer for this coming year. I will need to be splitting my time between Michigan and South Carolina to help my mom. It isn’t fair to you for me to commit to something I can’t give all the time it needs. This means we will have at least one open position (no, not necessarily President) that we will need to fill to maintain our Auxiliary. We have found ways to make the meetings shorter and still accomplish a lot for veterans. I encourage everyone to come to a meeting, see how we have changed and what we can do together.

We still have a need for additional workers to help with Bingo on Monday and Wednesday nights. Even one night a month would be a great help. Our upcoming meetings are Thursday, March 14th , Thursday, April 11th at 7:00, and Thursday May 16 th (May meeting moved to the 3rd week in May because of Tulip Time) all members are welcome!

If you know of a Veteran, Veteran organization or Community organization that could use our help, please let us know. I’m looking forward to seeing everyone these next couple of months!

Meeting Reminders

Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 73 meets the 2^nd Tuesday of every month at 7pm.  All Vietnam Veterans are welcome.

Vet to Vet support group meets every Wednesday from 630 to 730pm.  Veterans of every era are welcome to attend. Marine Corps League meets the Third Saturday of each month at 10am.  Everyone is welcome to attend.
