From the Desk of the Commander

Hello everyone, we are off to a good start some much needed repairs have happened down at the post with the coolers along with the building ac units. As you all know, the post picnic is right around the corner on September 9th we have a bunch of fun things planned. We will be having a quarter auction, bingo, and corn hole tournament with prizes for all events. Lunch will be provided as always, and it will be a half chicken meal with a few different sides. This is an entire building event so if you are in good standing with any of the clubs that are in the VFW building you are welcome, this includes spouses and children. There will also be a DJ for those that don’t wish to be outside. My self and JR vice commander Adam will be utilizing the tiki bar on the outside in our Hawaiian attire providing drinks and music for the membership. Also don’t forget about comedy night which starts the first weekend of September and continues throughout the winter along with Pure Pro wrestling which is in October. If you haven’t been to the Wrestling events its outstanding my family and I enjoy it and it is a great time for the kids.  Make sure to stop by the post and hang out for a little while. We would love to see you and appreciate you.  If there is anything you would like to propose please come to the meetings on the second Thursday of every month and voice your opinions and remember this is your post and your input matters.

Thank you!

Commander Michael Mennes

From the Desk of the Auxiliary President

Hi Everyone!

I hope everyone enjoyed their Summer as we begin to think about Autumn. We have been working on the Blue

Teardrop Walk! This year the walk will be at 9am on Saturday September 16th, starting at Kollen Park. For anyone

who wants to walk the 5k there is a $25. entry fee. This includes a ticket for breakfast at the Post after the walk.

You can also donate money to a specific walker or donate in general with cash or check. Make out any checks to

"VFW Auxiliary” and put "Blue Teardrop Walk” in the memo section. We did try to do online payments (Venmo/PayPal) but Auxiliary National rules forbid it at this time. There is also a Fundraiser Breakfast after the walk for $10. All proceeds go to the Blue Teardrop fund. All money raised will be going to the VA’s suicide prevention program. Last year we raised over $5,000. We have set up a separate Blue Teardrop Facebook page for all detailed information. You can access it here: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100094275450964. We have applications and posters with QR codes for Voice of Democracy (9th -12th grade) and Patriot’s Pen (6th -8thgrade) scholarships at the front table at the Post. Feel free to pick up an application or scan/share the QR codes. The scholarships are open to all students. Students do not need to have a family member that is a Veteran or a member. This year the voice of Democracy topic is "What are the greatest attributes to our Democracy?”. The Patriot’s Pen topic is "How are you inspired by America?”. To all our yearly members, if you pay your dues for 2024 by October15th, you will be entered into our drawing for a free lifetime membership. We still have a need for additional workers to help with Bingo on Monday and Wednesday nights. Even one night a month would be a great help. Our upcoming meetings are Thursday September 14th and Thursday October 12th at 7:00, all members are welcome! We would love to get your input! If you know of a Veteran, Veteran organization or Community organization that could use our help, please let us know. I’m looking forward to seeing everyone these next couple of months!
