From the Desk of the Commander

Greetings Comrades, I’d like to introduce myself. My name is Michael Mennes. I have recently been elected as the incoming Post Commander, along with Ed Lopez being elected as the Sr. Vice Commander. I am looking forward to serving the post along with my fellow post members.

A little about myself, I served in the United States Army Infantry. I did two deployments in support of Operation Enduring Freedom with the 1-17^th Inf. Regiment out of Ft. Lewis Washington. Some of you may already know my amazing wife Liz who is your canteen associate on Mondays and Tuesdays at the post make sure you stop in and say hi.

A Few things I’d like to address, my deepest condolences go out to the families of Rich Vredeveld and Dale Compagner, Until Valhalla brothers. During our last post meeting we addressed the Issue’s with the Roof A/C unit, a quote was presented and discussed. We will be addressing this again in our next Post meeting on July 13^th. I also would like to thank the Post Auxiliary for their generous donation of $20,000 to the post building fund, thank you so much!

Lastly, for a few upcoming events, the July 1^st Post GI party we will be conducting some well needed Post TLC, planning on starting at 10am lunch will be provided. Also, our annual Post picnic on September 9^th we will be having a chicken dinner along with a corn hole tournament, silent & live auction, and a few other activities. To all the Volunteers and Auxiliary thank you so much for what you do. The post would not be what it is without your support. That being said, please come down and support your post. I look forward to seeing everyone and introducing myself.

Queen of Hearts is back! The first drawing will be July 7^th.

From the Desk of the Auxiliary President

Happy Summer!

I am happy to say that I will continue as the Auxiliary President through the end of May/early June 2024. I would

also like to congratulate Cathy Parmer our new Jr. Vice President. All other positions remained the same as last

year.

We are starting to plan for the Blue Teardrop Walk! This year the walk will be at 9am on Saturday September 16 th .

There will be signups for anyone who wants to walk the 5k. You can also donate money to a specific walker. We

are working on other ways to donate. All money raised will be going to the VA’s suicide prevention program. We

are also working on a breakfast to raise funds. Last year we raised over $5,000. Stay tuned to our Facebook pages

and the Auxiliary table for more details as they become available.

We were happy to pay for 2 campers to attend Camp Trotter this year.

It isn’t too soon to start thinking about Voice of Democracy (9 th -12 th grade) and Patriot’s Pen (6 th -8 th grade)

scholarships. This year the voice of Democracy topic is "What are the greatest attributes to our Democracy?”. The

Patriot’s Pen topic is "How are you inspired by America?”.

We still have a need for additional workers to help with Bingo on Monday and Wednesday nights. Even one night a

month would be a great help.

Our upcoming meetings are Thursday July 13^th and Thursday August 10^that 7:00, all members are welcome! We

would love to get your input! If you know of a Veteran, Veteran organization or Community organization that could

use our help, please let us know. I’m looking forward to seeing everyone these next couple of months!

Meeting Reminders

Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 73 meets the 2^nd Tuesday of every month at 7pm.  All Vietnam Veterans are welcome.

Vet to Vet support group meets every Wednesday from 630 to 730pm.  Veterans of every era are welcome to attend. Marine Corps League meets the Third Saturday of each month at 10am.  Everyone is welcome to attend.
