From the Desk of the Commander

Greetings Comrades!

It is with great excitement and pride that I write my first article as the new Commander of Post 2144. The VFW holds a very significant place in my heart. This organization has been there for me at my highest highs and lowest lows. I wouldn’t be the man I am today without it. Through the guidance of past Commander Verne Blauwkamp and Mike Martin, Robin Bailey, and Hondo Robinson, I’m ready to hit the ground running at the best Post in the State of Michigan. Vern and Mike have done a great job leading This Post into the future and I am excited to continue their progress.

For four years we have earned the title of All-State Post, received the National Community Service Award, and now All-American Post honors. These things don’t just happen, it takes every single one of you working together. Every member should be proud of this Post.

This year will host a variety of changes that will better position us going into the future. I welcome any and all comments or suggestions. This Post belongs to all of us.

Our Post picnic will be held September 10th. This year we will extend our silent auction over the course of a week to better raise funds which will be used for our rooftop cooler that needs to be completely replaced. We are also looking into having this year’s Picnic catered.  If you are interested in being on the Picnic Committee, please reach out to myself or Aux President Laura Kinne.

I encourage all members to join us at our monthly meetings. They are held the 2nd Thursday of each month at 1900hrs (7:00PM). You can also attend our House Committee meetings that are held the same night at 1800hrs (6:00). A wide variety of Post, District, Department, and National VFW information is shared at these meetings so bring a notepad. In addition to our monthly meetings, we will be hosting the District 8 meeting on Saturday August 6th. Lunch is at 11 and meeting is at 12.
